19th c.

The image comes from a double-faced silver amulet and is assigned to the 19th century. On the one side it is embossed with a representation of Virgin Mary Orans with Christ and on the other it has an inscribed cross decorated with savati. Amulets are small, square, round or triangular cases in which objects capable of averting evil (pieces of the Holy Cross, flowers from the Holy Sepulchre, etc) are kept. The chains with pendants at the bottom are supposed to increase the protective powers of the amulet. Inv. No. Εα 1720
