Silver replica of a gold-plated tobacco box with repousse ornamental foliage, spirals and clusters. On the back is featured an incised bird on a floral background, the initials of the owner and the date 1820. Tobacco smoking became common during the 19th century and valuable tobacco boxes were personal requisites for wealthy Greek townsmen. The boxes often carry decorative themes alluding to the profession and standing of the owner or sometimes his initials.
