Silver replica of a tobacco box from the 19th century, when smoking tobacco had become a common practice and valuable tobacco boxes began to be indispensable personal requisites among prosperous Greeks. The relief decoration on the front depicts a basket and a bird wreathed in rococo florals, while on the other side a three masted sailing ship is shown, the sails filled with wind. The shape of the box and the relief in the back may indicate that the owner was the master of a merchant ship.
