Wreaths from olive, myrtle, laurel or ivy leaves have mainly been found in royal tombs of Macedonia and constitute excellent examples of the goldsmith’s art in Hellenistic times. The decorative style of this brooch, much smaller in size and simpler in form, alludes to the gold wreaths of the 3rd-2nd century B.C. in the Benaki Museum.
