Byzantine coin - Nicephorus I

Faithful replica of a gold coin of Nicephorus I (rein 802 - 811). The coin depicts the crowned emperor on the obverse, holding a cross and a mappa, a piece of cloth used to signal the start of a chariot race at a hippodrome. A cross is pictured on the reverse with an inscription around the perimeter.
