Lamp stand from Eastern Mediterranean

Replica of a bronze lamp stand with a tripod base, the feet of which form horse’s hooves. On top is a tenon fitting into the socket of the lamp (preserved in the original) and a disk to catch the drops of oil. Lamps of this type were widely used throughout the Eastern Mediterranean area in the 5^th - 7^th centuries for illuminating churches and houses, while often they were presented as wedding gifts.
