Rattle with floral decoration

Pear-shaped silver rattle with handle and floral decoration in relief. The rattle, among the first gifts given to newborns, was usually made of silver. Apart from being a toy, it was thought to have protective powers, because it was believed that the sound produced by them warded off evil. France, first half of the 20th century.
