The subject is taken from a double-faced silver amulet and is dated to the 19th century. On the obverse it is embossed with a representation of Virgin Mary Orans holding Christ at her breast and on the reverse it has an inscribed cross decorated with savati. Amulets are small square, round or triangular cases in which objects supposedly capable of averting evil (pieces of the Holy Cross, flowers from the Holy Sepulchre, etc) are kept.
