Compass

Replica of a copper compass from Egypt (6^th - 7^th century) decorated with engraved lines, rosette and an inlaid silver inscription which reads: ΕΥΤΥΧΩΣ ΧΡΟ ΠΑΝΤΟΤΕ (‘Use always in happiness’). Inscriptions expressing wishes were widespread not only on various objects but also on the decoration of mosaic floors during the late Roman period.
