An English translation of the catalogue accompanying the major exhibition dedicated by the Benaki Museum to Dimitris Pikionis (December 2010–March 2011). This publication highlights the architectural and pictorial work of the great Greek artist in its entirety and in its internal connections. The texts written specifically for this volume (Thanasis Moutsopoulos, Dimitris Filippidis, Giorgos Lestos), the autobiographical texts and theoretical and artistic reflections by Dimitris Pikionis, the rich illustrations, as well as the views of earlier architects, intellectuals and artists (Yannis Tsarouchis, Zissimos Lorentzatos, Ioannis Despotopoulos, Kenneth Frampton, Alberto Ferlenga, Nikos Hadjikyriakos-Ghika, Giulio Kaimi, Dimitris Fatouros, et al.) enable the reader to gain an insight into the world of the intellectual, the painter and the architect, who was one of the iconic figures of twentieth-century Greece.
