The two volumes of Andrea Kalvos’ Correspondence, published by the Benaki Museum in the framework of his Oeuvre, present for the first time to the Greek reader the complete set of letters, of which the poet was recipient or sender, thus satisfying one of the most important desiderata in neohellenic literature. 388 letters and notes reveal the details of his life and his intellectual formation, the diverse environments into which he moved (Italy, Switzerland, England, France, Greece) and the people with whom he interacted.
The letters are published in a chronological order, in their original form (all foreign language letters are accompanied by Greek translations). A detailed commentary and an apparatus criticus for each letter shed light into all aspects that facilitate the understanding of the individual matters and further enrich the poet’s biography. An analytical Index (including correspondents, main names, places and concepts) and a Bibliography complete the publication.
