The brooch reproduces the design of a buckle in the shape of an eight. The origins of this type of buckle can be traced to the Urnfield culture of central Europe (13th – 11th century BC). This culture was familiar in Greece as early as the 10th century BC and the buckle was used to fix a peplos or a garment on the shoulders. From Macedonia 10th – 8th century BC.
