Silver icon on a velvet base with a Crucifixion representation, replica of a 19th century silver amulet on a velvet base. This representation of Christ's crucifixion is austere and with few figures. The expressive presence of the Virgin Mary and Christ's beloved disciple John epitomizes human suffering, while the sun and the moon at the top and Adam's skull at the foot of the cross bear witness to the triumph of the powers of heaven over those of darkness. The image decorated the back of a 19th century silver amulet hung from the neck on a long chain.
