The book is a translation of the first Greek-English edition, which was published in the occasion of the exhibition under the same name (Benaki Museum of Islamic Art, October–November 2017), focusing on ceramics from the Ottoman period, specifically those produced in the 16th century in the city of Iznik in Asia Minor.
Vessels featuring bright colors and vivid designs were admired and sought after both during the period of their production and throughout the 19th century. The aim of the publication is to trace a journey that begins in the mid-19th century, with the initial interest shown by Europeans and the early studies and culminates in the workshops of Greece –specifically in Faliro and Rhodes– which are attempting to revive the production of these ceramics.
