Necklaces created of braided bands and pendent vase-shaped or lanceolate beads appeared in the late 4th c. BC and became very popular throughout the Hellenic world up to the 2nd c. BC. The decorative style of this jewel, smaller in size and simpler in form reminds us of the necklace in the Benaki Museum, which is a superb example of the goldsmith's art of the Hellenistic period.
