Leather strap handcrafted by Callista Crafts exclusively for the Benaki Museum.
Callista Craft’s inspiration regarding this exclusive collection of sleek leather bags adorned with woven straps derives from a renowned 17th or 18th linen bridal cushion from the island of Skyros, embroidered with a sailing vessel. The color hues selected for the leathers refer to dense pattern of lozenges, covering the surface of a bed valance from Rhodes (18- 19th century). These unique pieces were created in collaboration with Benaki Museum’s NEMA Passementerie, the oldest textile manufactories in Greece that specializes in silk and cotton thread processing and the production of elaborate trimmings, custom dyed and bespoke-woven.
