The publication accompanies the exhibition of the same title, which was held at the Benaki Museum of Greek Culture, in the spring of 2022, and was dedicated to the work of the English painter John Craxton (1922-2009), a friend of Lucian Freud, Giorgos Seferis, Nikos Hadjikyriakos-Ghikas, Patrick Leigh Fermor and others. Through the works of the artist and the editor’s penetrating texts, the reader is introduced to the world of this "cosmopolitan nomadic", who, mainly through the intense experience of Crete, identified and captured “the persistence of myth in rural lives, seemingly unchanged since Homeric times”.
