Exclusive to the Benaki Museum, this facsimile of Yannis Pappas’s sculpture Owl (c. 1970) is available in a limited, numbered edition.
An actual owl, perched on the branches of a cypress tree, kept the artist company during the summer months in his estate at the island of Aegina. It was the inspired inspiration for the original work, currently on show at the Benaki Museum / The Yannis Pappas Studio. A mould was created from the original plaster sculpture and fifty numbered copies in hand-patinated bronze were then hand-cast using the traditional ‘lost wax’ technique in a ceramic shell. This entirely handmade process renders every facsimile unique and was supervised at all stages by the Yannis Pappas Studio.
This collection of limited-edition facsimiles of Yannis Pappas’s works was created for the Benaki Museum Shop in 2021 on the occasion of the Benaki Museum anniversary exhibition 1821 Before and After.
