The decoration is inspired by a motif which appears on an Attic vessel exhibited in the Benaki Museum and is most likely a representation of a chariot wheel. The inscription “ΤΥΧΕΙΝ ΑΡΙΣΤΟΝ” (“that [which] is best”) is derived from Herodotus (Book 1, 31) and carries a message of good luck.
