The Benaki Museum Shop presents Valia Kapeletzi’s exhibition “Suspended landscapes” as part of the series “Kriezotou 3 window. An artist exhibits”.

An art installation of textile works transforms the window of Kriezotou 3 into an airy, summery landscape. Hanging panels create an abstract setting, with colorful forms suspended by dozens of threads. In front of them, three-dimensional fabric vessels inspired by the collections of the Benaki Museum, along with a floating sculpture, seem to emerge from the painterly backdrop, bringing color into the space.

Her work draws from the shades of summer. The peach hue of the afternoon sun coexists with the translucent blues and natural, earthy tones, creating a multilayered environment of colors and textures.

"Threads and lines run organically throughout the installation, symbolizing connection, memory, and flow—like the sunlight that penetrates the Greek islands in summer," the artist explains.

 

Valia Kapeletzi is a textile designer and artist based in Greece. A graduate of the London College of Fashion, with professional experience at the atelier of Iris van Herpen, she creates artworks and sculptural compositions using fabric as her primary medium. Inspired by organic forms and natural textures, she experiments with everyday materials, transforming them—often deconstructing or interfering with their inherent properties—through handcrafted techniques. Transparency is a defining element of her work, allowing her pieces to interact with light and the surrounding environment. She recently founded Valia Kap Studio, a space dedicated to the creative exploration of textiles.
