Terracotta replica of the head of Aphrodite. The original was found on the island of Lesbos where the cult of the goddess of love was widespread from the archaic period onward. The figure is dated to the Hellenistic period when the manufacture of terracotta figurines flourished on the island (3rd - 2nd century BC).
