Plaster replica of a marble head of the Roman period, probably made in Attica. The original is one of the best copies of the famous bronze statue of Apollo Sauroktonos (lizard-slayer) made by Praxiteles in the mid-4th century BC. The god was shown leaning against a tree trunk in the act of killing a lizard.
