Represented on the ovoid seal-amylet are Eros and Psyche locked in embrace. The two winged figures are identified as the heroes of the symbolic short story of that name, by Apulius (2nd-1st century BC). Very popular in Antiquity, this work narrates the checkered love of the god Eros for the mortal Psyche, that finally triumphs after many trials and tribulations. The charming amulet, the original of which is engraved in haematite, is dated to the 2nd-3rd century AD. Inv. No 13538a
