Decorative plate featuring a replica of a Roman amulet engraved in haematite (2nd - 3rd century AD), depicting Eros and Psyche locked in embrace. The two winged figures are identified as the heroes of the symbolic short story of the same name, by the philosopher, rhetorician and poet Apuleius (2nd - 1st century BC). Very popular in Antiquity, this work narrates the checkered love of the god Eros for the mortal Psyche, which finally triumphs after many trials and tribulations.
