The Melina Mercouri Foundation invited the international fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier to create collectibles inspired by Melina, where all proceeds from sales will be used exclusively for support of the Foundation. He chose to dedicate his trademark, the white and blue stripes, in two versions, a striped blouse and a t-shirt, based on two photographs of Melina Mercouri by the legendary photographers Douglas Kirkland and Bill Yoscary who provided them for free. Jean Paul Gaultier designed the collectible striped blouse and the t-shirt that bear his signature and were produced according to his quality standards in Greece. The striped blouse, a characteristic element in Melina's wardrobe, emerges as a timeless symbol of style for women and men.
The items are produced in limited numbers by the Melina Mercouri Foundation in Greece.
