To mark the 100th anniversary of the publication of the first issue of the journal Cahiers d’art, published in Paris by Christian Zervos in 1926, the Benaki Museum is taking part in the international commemorative programme with an exhibition focusing on the journal’s global, long-standing and intercultural character, which aligns with the core values of the Museum’s founder, Antonis Benakis, regarding the value of cultural exchange and a broadest possible conception of art that embraces the world, transcending identities.
The publication and the exhibition feature objects from the Benaki Museum’s Collections, which had previously been published in Zervos’s journal, accompanied by texts by the curators, detailed entries, pages from the journal and extensive references to the connections between the objects.
