Reproduction of an icon with the Virgin Hodegetria. The original constitutes a remarkable product of a painter's workshop active in Epirus during the first half of the 16th century. This iconographic type of the Virgin has been established in the Byzantine period and is considered to be a reproduction of the miracle-working icon of the Virgin with Christ kept in the Hodegon Monastery at Constantinople. The reproduction is hand-crafted by the artist and icon painter George Bogdanopoulos according to the technique used by Byzantine painters, that is, in egg-tempera combined with earth colours and with polished pure gold leaf.
