A juvenile piece by Andreas Kalvos, entitled "Apologia del suicidio" is the launching pad for a study that attempts to chart the discourse on suicide in Europe and Italy at the end of the eighteenth and the dawn of the nineteenth century, not only in order to demystify this particular piece of writing, but also to trace the paths by which the radical view of voluntary death is introduced into the intellectual and ideological substrate of the poet who wrote the Odes.
