Gold-plated silver icon on an acrylic base. Reproduction of an icon which adorned the lid of a beautiful hexagonal silver monstrance dedicated in one of the Cappadocian churches (19th century). The simplicity of the composition, the neoclassical crowning palmette and the stylized clouds below are all features typical of 19th century trends.
The original is one of the treasures deposited in the Benaki Museum by the Greek refugees from Asia Minor.
