CERAMYSTIQUE • Leonie Yagdjoglou

Kriezotou 3 Window

15, March 2023

The Benaki Museum Shop presents Leonie Yagdjoglou’s latest collection “CERAMYSTIQUE” at the Ghika Gallery Shop, as part of the series "Kriezotou 3 window. An artist exhibits”.

CERAMYSTIQUE is the invisible thread that connects all of the artist’s works. Each work references other cultures through signs and symbols stemming from the choice and combination of colours, as well as from the modular elements that make up a sculpture, such as the “I am all ears” totem, or a functional object, such as the candleholders “Lavalamp23”. Leonie’s design philosophy is characterized by the ability to deconstruct and reassemble an object. ”Ideally, nothing permanent. Everything can change, like a game.”

The “Peoplakia” series of works was born out of the artist’s need to satirically express our reality: The human race's rare to non-existent communication. A dominant black line forms the crowd named Peoplakia. Figures and forms crowd a ceramic object, only to be seen a moment later overflowing from a wall print. What are they saying to each other and who is listening... Is there anyone listening?

Leonie Yagdjoglou creates ceramics distinct for their minimalistic forms and their lively strokes. Her interest in ceramics, a three-dimensional art, combines the two basic elements that define her artistic style: design, in which she excels professionally, and painting, that is the medium of her personal expression.
