Odyssey • Thalia-Maria Georgouli

Kriezotou 3 Window

21, June 2023

The Benaki Museum Shop presents Thalia-Maria Georgouli’s exhibition “Odyssey” at the Ghika Gallery Shop, as part of the series "Kriezotou 3 window. An artist exhibits”.

Since the beginning of the 00s, Thalia has devoted herself exclusively to silver. This precious and aesthetically understated material allows her to create one-of-a-kind sculptural objects of high aesthetic value. Her spoons, a colourful universe of small treasures, dominate the exhibition bearing all of Thalia-Maria's creative obsessions: the allure of silver, the meticulous forging of the metal, the love for textures and colours of nature, the pursuit of simplicity in form.

"The possibilities are endless, and every new piece remains unique and beautiful in its own organic way. Each pebble holds a personal story, as we can only imagine where that natural stone first started its harmonious journey and stumbled into my path,” she says.

All the work that will be shown in the exhibition, from every little piece to all the bigger ones, is entirely dedicated to Thalia-Maria’s late friend Despoina Geroulanou, which we all deeply miss every day.

Thalia-Maria Georgouli studied in the Istituto Europeo di Design (Italy), and holds a Master of Art from the Royal College of Art (London). She has received awards internationally for her work, while she exhibits in various art showings in Europe and the United States, including Sotheby's, the V&A Museum, the Galerie Sofie Lachaert (Belgium), the Galerie Marzee (Netherlands), the Flow Gallery (London), as well as concept stores in London. Her collaboration with Benaki Shop dates to 2005. Since then, she has been crafting limited-edition collections for the shops of the Benaki Museum. In 2011 she presented her exhibition “Ag 925” at the Shop of the Benaki Museum / Pireos 138, as part of the exhibition series “Material Quests”.
